Traffic SignalsTraffic Signals

The Traffic Division's personnel currently maintains 81 signalized intersections. Ten additional signalized intersections are proposed for the near future. This Division also maintains 972 traffic signal heads, which includes 2,916 signal bulbs. The Traffic Division is also responsible for all decorative downtown street lights, the electronic pedestrian crosswalks, and all regulatory signage throughout the City of Franklin, including trolley signs.

 

The Traffic Division's personnel performs in-house design and production of the City street signs, traffic calming devices, such as speed humps and bulb outs. They also conduct pavement marking with thermoplastic and street marking paint.

Creation of Traffic SignsTraffic Signs

The Traffic Division’s personnel perform in-house design and production of all regulatory signage throughout the City of Franklin, including trolley signs. Signs are installed in accordance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) guidelines. Old and/or damaged signs are removed and replaced as needed. At various intersections throughout the City, reflective signs have been installed on signal mast arms for improved visibility.



Street MarkingsStreet Markings

The Traffic Division personnel mix and pour paint into a road marking machine for placement of street markings. Thermoplastic is utilized for markings such as stop bars, turn arrows and other directional street markings. Glass beads are used as an additive for reflectivity of street markings.

 

Traffic calming devices including speed humps and bulb outs are also installed by Traffic Division personnel.

 

The Traffic Division closely interacts with the Traffic Operations Center and Traffic Engineer.
