Services provided in addition to infrastructure improvements include: street repair and maintenance, mowing and landscaping, street sweeping, inspection performance, seasonal leaf removal, and snow and ice removal. A patch crew routinely surveys City streets and repairs potholes throughout the City as reported by citizens and as deemed necessary. Several services provided by the Street Department are seasonal in nature, including the maintenance and appropriate interchanging of the decorative banners displayed along Main Street. The Department is also responsible for the placement of the Holiday lights and decorations along Main Street. Festivals and other downtown activities often require special assistance from the Department. The Streets Department currently has three street sweepers that operate daily throughout the City of Franklin. One street sweeper travels Main Street and the Square; the other two are divided between the other parts of the City. The Sweepers are operated daily in an attempt to keep the streets clean and free of debris. Three leaf vacuums are dispatched daily from October 1st through December 31st for seasonal leaf removal. Maintaining the aesthetics of the Square keeps our Landscape Crew busy nurturing a vast array of plants and flowers. They perform seasonal tasks including the operation of commercial landscape mowers, weedeaters, chainsaws, and other equipment and also the trimming of tree limbs and pruning hedges to clear street rights-of-way.
Grooming and maintenance of all City cemeteries are among the diverse responsibilities handled by the Street Department Landscape Crew. Our Road Inspectors continually interact with contractors, developers, engineers and government officials to ensure construction is in compliance with codes, standards, and specifications. In addition, routine inspections are conducted for construction performed as a part of the City Sidewalk and Roadway Improvements.
