The Planning Director provides expertise and technical assistance to the City, and supervises the Current, Long Range, and Preservation Planning Divisions, and the Administrative and Support Staff.
The Planning Department, under the supervision of the Planning Director, provides expertise and technical assistance to the City. To accomplish this task, the Planning Department is comprised of three “wings,” each of which is supported by our excellent administrative staff:
Current Planning: Under the supervision of the Design/Planning Supervisor, provides expertise and technical assistance to the City in the review of rezoning requests, Concept Plans/Pattern Books, Site Plans, Preliminary Plats, Final Plats, and Conservation Design Plans. Performs landscape inspections and administers performance agreements and sureties. Prepares various items and recommendations for consideration by:
Franklin Municipal Planning Commission (FMPC)
Board of Zoning Appeals (BOZA)
Franklin Tree Commission (FTC)
Landscape Inspections
Long Range Planning: Maintains the City’s Land Use Plan and handles annexation with conventional zoning requests. Prepares studies and reports such as annual development reports, land use inventories, household surveys, business surveys, and annexation feasibility studies. Provides staff support for various special committees and task forces related to long range community planning.
Preservation Planning: Administers the City’s historic preservation program. Provides staff support to the Historic Zoning Commission. Review’s the impact of development on historic resources. Oversees grant projects related to historic preservation, such as historic resources surveys and public education programs.
