Important Notice:
Recently, the Tennessee Legislature passed legislation requiring courts to collect and pay to the State a fee of $13.75 for traffic citations paid prior to an appearance in Court. This applies to all payments made after July 1, 2011. That fee is reflected in the Fee Schedule.
Individuals who appear in Court will not have the fee applied. However, any defendant appearing in Court and found to be Guilty will incur a State-mandated Litigation tax. The Litigation Tax is $27.50 which is added to Fines and Court Costs.
Questions may be addressed and payments may be made to the Court Clerk at 615-794-5362 weekdays from 8 to 5. Credit cards are accepted (convenience fee applies for phone payments).
Franklin City Court is held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and starts promptly at 7:30 a.m. The City Court Clerk’s office is located in Suite 120 in City Hall, located at 109 3rd Ave S.

The Municipal Court provides a fair and impartial hearing for all citizens charged with a city ordinance violation, code violation, or traffic violation within the boundaries of the City of Franklin.
Franklin Court primarily handles the following issues:
- traffic citations
- parking citations
- and some fire code violations
- Other city ordinance violations such as:
- building codes
- business regulations
- noise and other ordinances that involve personal behavior
Pay a Fine
The Judge hears cases in Court on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 7:30 AM, but fines may be paid at any time during regular business hours (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM) by visiting the Clerks Office or calling (615) 794-5362 to process a fine over the phone (additional fees required).

Make Money Orders, Cashier's Checks, or Personal Checks payable to City of Franklin. Please enclose the pink copy of the citation with your payment to insure proper credit. All fees include a fine of $50.00 or less plus a court fee of $76.00, unless state law/local ordinance requires a lesser amount.
Things To Know
You must pay the citation prior to your court date or appear in Court by the date assigned by the Officer.
If you wish to plead not guilty to a charge, you must contact the Clerk's Office at least two (2) weeks prior to your assigned court date and specifically request the office be "subpoenaed" for a hearing.
If you wish to appear in court and plead guilty to a charge, please appear on the date the officer assigned. Court starts promptly at 7:30 AM.
If you wish to pay a citation, you may do so on or before your scheduled court date.
Failure to appear in court by the assigned date will result in an additional charge of Failure to Appear. Separate costs, fines and taxes apply.
If you fail to fully satisfy your traffic citation by appearing in court on your assigned date, or fail to pay this citation on or before your scheduled date, the Tennessee Department of Safety will be notified to initiate suspension of your license.
Diversion (Driver School) may be offered for drivers with good driving history. Failure to return the completed certificate from the school by the date specified may result in additional charges and costs. In addition, the TN Dept. of Safey will be notified to initiate suspension of your license.
