Dial 9-1-1 To Report an Emergency!

Calling 9-1-1 is the fastest and easiest way to call for fire, medical or police help in an emergency. In most cases, the 9-1-1 system lets dispatchers know exactly where you’re calling from and where help is needed. An emergency is:
  • Fire of any kind
  • Serious medical problem
  • Life threatening situations
  • Any crime in progress
Dial (615) 794-2513 for fire and police non-emergency. A non-emergency is: delayed or "not in progress" offenses, non-injury auto accidents, and minor complaints

When in doubt, call 9-1-1!

Fire ChiefWelcome from the Fire Chief Rocky Garzarek Franklin Fire Department (FFD) is comprised of 144 shift personnel and 15 administrative employees dedicated to providing our 50,000 residents and guests with the best fire protection, emergency medical and rescue service, anywhere.

Franklin Fire Department was established in 1820 as an all-volunteer department. In 1972 the first career firefighters joined the force and in 1995 the department became completely a career department.

Franklin Fire Department develops, organizes, equips and maintains the capability to deliver exceptional service to calls for help, anywhere in our city’s 41.28 square miles, in 4:30 minutes or less. We also provide mutual aid to surrounding communities when needs arise. For example, in February our crews were dispatched to the Fairview area to assist in search and rescue operations following the tornadoes that devastated that community.

In order to deploy our firefighters, we must have the necessary support assets - Administration, Operations and Training, Fire Prevention, and Communications; to mention just a few. We are appreciative that our Board of Mayor and Alderman recognize and support these needs.

FFD promotes fire and life safety education, community partnerships and outreach to make our community safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threat of fire, medical emergencies, and disasters of all kinds.

We hope you enjoy our web site. If you have any questions, please contact me by email at rockyg@franklin-gov.com or by phone at (615) 791-3270.

Sincerely,
Rocky Garzarek

Fireworks Illegal in Franklin

With the Fourth of July holiday right around the corner, Franklin Fire officials are reminding residents that in Franklin, selling and using fireworks of any kind - even sparklers - is illegal. They also want people to realize that fireworks purchased outside the city limits are not allowed in Franklin.

The ordinance banning fireworks allows both police and fire officials to issue citations for violations, and persons found violating the law will be guilty of a misdemeanor and could face fines of up to $500. Franklin Fire Marshal Andy King said that portable message boards will be placed around town next week to remind citizens that fireworks are prohibited in Franklin.

King said the city has such a tough stance on fireworks for a reason. “Fireworks pose serious risks, especially to children. Even sparklers can exceed 1800° F,” said King. A recently released report by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission found there were 11 deaths associated with fireworks during 2006, and more than 9,000 fireworks-related injuries were treated in U.S. hospital emergency rooms. The highest injury rates were for children aged 10 to 14.

King reminds residents that the safest way to enjoy fireworks is to watch a professional display. The City of Franklin/WAKM Radio’s fireworks display will start around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, July 4 at the Wastewater Treatment Plant on Claude Yates Dr. behind Franklin High School.
