Joan Lawler
This month, prize-winning painter, Joan Lawler, will exhibit her work at the FireHall Art Gallery located in Franklin City Hall.
Lawler’s work, selected to appear in many exhibitions, was juried to be the first exhibition at the new Tennessee Art League’s Premier Gallery. Recently her work was selected (in 2006 and 2007) to be the artwork for the “Teal Magnolias”, a non-profit organization in New Jersey dedicated to raising money to fund ovarian cancer research. Through local and internet sales, her work can be found in collections throughout the United States.
With a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and an MBA, Lawler’s “first career” was in the highly technical world of telecommunication. Upon retirement from her ‘first career’ she decided her ‘next career’ would have absolutely nothing to do with technical ‘big business.’ “I went to O’More College for a year to explore artistic options. While there I started to draw and paint. And voila! My ‘next career’ was born!”
Active in several community affairs, Lawler is past secretary of the Brentwood Arts Foundation and is currently Chair of the Publicity Committee and Co-Chair of the Art Committee of the Brentwood Library.
Lawler’s work will be on display from June 11th through July 8th. The FireHall Art Gallery is located at 109 Third Avenue South in Downtown Franklin.
