The City of Franklin has (15) outdoor warning devices that are electronically activated sirens. There are (6) electronic sirens and nine (9) electromechanical sirens. The outdoor warning sire system is designed to provide residents and those working outside in the community with ALERT WARNING signals. These signals are consistent with standardized warning signals for outdoor warning devices that have been established by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Testing of the outdoor warning devices will be conducted on the first Saturday of each month at 1:00 p.m. During the testing the sirens will sound for 3 minutes. Testing may also occur during disaster training exercises that are specifically and expressly approved in advance by the City Administrator and for which adequate public notice has been provided.
The Alert Warning Signal shall indicate the need for all persons to immediately seek shelter and additional information from a local radio and/or television network channel to obtain additional essential emergency information.
The City's outdoor warning system is not intended to be the only means of emergency warning. For a well-balanced system, the use of indoor systems, such as radio and television, is also necessary.
