Two Franklin Police Department detectives are assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The Franklin Police Department ICAC Task Force office is tasked with investigating the online exploitation of children throughout the Middle Tennessee region. This office works collaboratively with surrounding law enforcement agencies, including state and federal law enforcement. This office works in conjunction with the Knoxville Police Department ICAC Task Force office, which is the hub agency for the State of Tennessee, and is an affiliate of the Tennessee Regional ICAC Task Force. Many of the investigations conducted by the FPD ICAC office are forwarded to United States Attorney’s Office of the middle District of Tennessee for federal prosecution, in addition to prosecution at the State level in various Judicial Districts.
Child pornography is a CRIME. These are not merely pictures of naked children, but in fact are photographs of a crime being committed with the child as the VICTIM. The mere possession of these images stigmatizes the child forever, and causes the child to be revictimized over and over again.
Currently, there are two Franklin Police Department detectives assigned to investigating child physical and sexual abuse, domestic violence follow-up investigations, and all sexually related offenses (such as sexual battery, statutory rape, forcible rape) and other family related offenses. These two detectives, along with the two detectives assigned to the ICAC Task Force, make up the Special Victims Unit of the Criminal Investigation Division.
Domestic violence assault is not confined to a particular race, religion, ethic background, or social economic status. This crime affects all aspects of a person’s life, as well as all members of the community.
Child abuse (both physical and sexual) and neglect is not demographically defined. Statistically, one in three girls and one in five boys will experience some form of sexual abuse before their eighteenth birthday.
