Explorer Post 219

The Franklin Police Department organized their Law Enforcement Explorer Post in 1997 to give young men and women in our community an opportunity to get personally involved in public service. The Franklin Police Explorers strive to better the relations between youths, the community, and law enforcement, and acquaint them with the goals and objectives of the Police Department. The Explorer Program also serves to promote interest in, and provide training to those interested in a law enforcement career.

What Explorers Do?

Explorers conduct meetings and attend lectures, seminars, and training sessions on law enforcement related topics such as Criminal Investigations, Traffic Stops, Traffice Direction and Control, The History of Law Enforcement, and Search and Arrests.

Explorers provide assistance to the Police Department and other law enforcement agencies in many areas such as Traffic Direction and Control for special events. Explorers also assist the department with Community Relations and Crime Prevention Programs such as Child Safety and Kids' Fingerprinting. Explorers also participate in regional and national competitions.

What Kind of Training Do Explorers Receive?

Explorers train in basic law enforcement. They can attend an Explorer Academy in which the Explorer studies Criminal Law, First Aid / CPR, Self Defense, and Firearms Safety. Explorers participate in the Franklin Police Department's Civilian Ride-Along Program. The Ride-Along Program gives Explorers the opportunity to ride with a police officer while on patrol.

The Explorer Program is a non-profit organization administered by Police Officers with the Franklin Police Department and interested civilian community leaders, and is affiliated with the Learning for Life Law Enforcement Explorer Program .
