Franklin’s Buck-A-Bag Program Offers Alternative for Holiday Season
Citizens Can Pay a Dollar a Bag for Extra Trash Pick-up at Their Curb

Franklin—The holidays are fast approaching and that means holiday parties, gift giving and extra trash. Instead of purchasing an additional roll-out container for $75.00, citizens can now just pay one dollar for each extra bag they leave at the curb. It’s part of Franklin’s Pay-as-you-throw program. Citizens can purchase pink stickers through the City’s Utility Billing Division or the Solid Waste Offices. The stickers are sold in groups of five for $1.00 each or $5.00 per pack. There is no limit to the number of stickers citizens can purchase, however it is required that each extra bag have a sticker so the garbage collector will know they are allowable for pick-up under the new program.

Bagged household garbage placed next to the rollout container will not be collected unless it has a pink “Buck-A-Bag” sticker. Yard waste will still need to be bagged in biodegradable paper bags; these biodegradable bags do not require stickers.

“This is an exciting program that offers citizens an alternative to purchasing an extra rollout container,” said Solid Waste Director Becky Caldwell. “Another great service the City of Franklin offers is recycling of electronics. Those citizens who may be replacing TVs, stereos, or other electronics this holiday season, can bring their old and outdated ones to our Solid Waste Transfer Station for recycling.” The Transfer Station is located at 417 Century Court and is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM until 2 PM.
