CITY OF FRANKLIN ANNOUNCES LOCATIONS FOR CHRISTMAS TREE DROP-OFFS

After the Holidays, residents will have two options for discarding live Christmas Trees.

  1. Trees left at the curb will be collected by our Solid Waste Department. These trees must be unbagged and will be picked up on your regularly-scheduled trash collection day.
  2. Drop the tree off at one of three designated City Park locations throughout the month of January. The locations are Jim Warren Park (705 Boyd Mill Avenue); Liberty Park (2080 Turning Wheel Lane); and Fieldstone Park (1377 Hillsboro Road). Drop-off points at these locations will be clearly marked with green, wooden cut-out trees.

HOLIDAY TRASH PICK-UP SCHEDULE COMING TO A NEIGHBORHOOD NEAR YOU


Christmas Week-Thursday, December 24, 2009 and Friday, December 25, 2009
  • Customers normally serviced on Monday or Tuesday will be serviced on Monday, December 21, 2009
  • Customers normally serviced on Wednesday or Thursday will be serviced on Tuesday, December 22, 2009
  • Customer normally serviced on Friday will be serviced on Wednesday, December 23, 2009.
  • Transfer station will be closed on Christmas Eve & Christmas Day December 25, 2009.
  • No Yard Waste, Brush or Bulk Service available this week.
New Years Day - Friday, January 1, 2010
  • Customers normally serviced on Friday will be serviced on Thursday, December 31, 2009.
  • Customers with a regular collection day of Monday through Thursday will be serviced on their regular collection day.
  • Transfer station will be closed on New Year's Eve & New Year's Day.
  • No Yard Waste, Brush or Bulk Service available during the holiday week.

CITY OF FRANKLIN RECEIVES AAA RATING FROM MOODY'S AND STANDARD & POOR'S

Both Moody's and Standard & Poor's Ratings Services have given the City of Franklin an AAA rating for Franklin's upcoming bond issue. In assigning the AAA rating, the top rating available, the rating agencies cited the City's strong financial position characterized by prudent reserve levels, stable and affluent tax base and a low overall net debt burden with moderate additional capital requirements.

PHOTOS FROM CITY TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY HELD ON DECEMBER 2ND

The Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony for the City of Franklin will be held on Wednesday, December 2nd at 6 PM at City Hall. Entertainment will be provided by the Liberty Elementary School chorus, under the direction of Mr. Bobby Vines, and Miss Tennessee USA, Tucker Nichol Perry of Franklin. The 20-ft spruce is a pre-lit artificial tree which is expected to last ten years. The City chose to use an artificial tree due to the significant cost savings over a live tree.

FRANKLIN LAUNCHES BUCK-A-BAG PROGRAM

The holidays are fast approaching and that means holiday parties, gift giving and extra trash. Instead of purchasing an additional roll-out container for $75.00, citizens can now just pay one dollar for each extra bag they leave at the curb. It's part of Franklin's Pay-as-you-throw program. Citizens can purchase pink stickers to tie the bags through the City's Utility Billing Division or the Solid Waste Offices beginning Monday, November 2.

APA DESIGNATES DOWNTOWN FRANKLIN HISTORIC DISTRICT ONE OF TOP 10 GREAT NEIGHBORHOODS

The American Planning Association (APA) announced today that the Downtown Franklin Historic District has been designated one of 10 Great Neighborhoods for 2009 by APA's Great Places in America program. APA Great Places exemplify exceptional character and highlight the role planners and planning play in creating communities of lasting value. Franklin is the first city in Tennessee to be selected for a Great Places in America designation.
